Estelle was born October 1st 1961, the eldest of a family of four children. Her formative years were spent growing up in the small North-Ontarian community of Cochrane: where she still lives today.
As early as she can remember, she knew singing was her passion. She sang and danced to music at every opportunity. As she grew up she imagined herself performing to an audience. And so, she practiced by coming out from behind the living room curtains, with hairbrush in hand as a microphone and sang her heart out. She sang from an imaginary stage and sang to an enthusiastic but also imaginary audience. Her record player, cassette recorder and small keyboard organ were constant companions. This heartfelt passion for singing and performing was something she felt the need to express on an almost daily basis. She was a young northern girl with a big passion for music and a drive to put her voice out there.
To understand this burning interest in music and singing one has only to look to Estelle's early influences: some of her fondest memories, for instance, revolve around listening to her mother play the guitar and sing. This was a common occurrence in the household and at family gatherings. In fact, Estelle cites her mother as her biggest influence in term of her love for music and singing.
Estelle's dream of wanting someday to perform for an audience was put on hold temporarily when she married the love of her life and teenage sweetheart, Jacques Deschamps on August 22nd 1980. Life was very joyful and things got very busy with the arrival of their three beautiful children: Eric, Sylvain and Annie. The couple worked together at creating a loving home and raising three, now grown children. Jacques and Estelle were a great team then and continue to be today as he is one of her greatest supporter. The couple has been together over 30 years, now additionally blessed with the recent arrival of three beautiful grandchildren: Joseph, Kohen and Emma.
Despite her busy and joy filled family life, Estelle's drive to sing and perform for others never left her. She felt intuitively that someday the opportunity to do so would present itself. And so it was that:
In 1999, she started performing in public as a Karaoke Hostess. Thereafter, she began welcoming greater opportunities to sing in public and gradually began writing her own songs. In 2010, she had her first five-piece rock band called "Hooked". The experience of collaborating with what she refers to as "phenomenal musicians" was inspiring and energized her by creating a true taste of the world of music. When the group disbanded, Estelle continued to work with guitarist/composer John Lemieux, one of the former band members. Since then Estelle & John have entertained at various venues and events: cabarets, festivals, concerts, fundraising events, weddings, private parties, etc.
Estelle speaks fondly of all the performing opportunities, but some of her favourite highlights include:
• Serving as the opening act for the following artists: Joe Meloche in 2005, Julian Austin in 2008, the group "Sens" in 2010, Kevin Parent in 2015
• Participating in "La petite seduction", a television episode in 2015
• In 2014, Estelle and her musical partner John Lemieux, realized John's long starting dream of filming a music video on a roof top - when they shot the video "Nous Les Filles" on top a building in Cochrane Ontario.
Estelle continues to be a popular performer at many Northern venues. Occasionally, she is an interviewed guest on live radio and is often featured in regionally newspapers. AS a result, she has become a recognizable figure in the northern music scene.
Estelle recorded and released her first album entitled, Battle Of Emotions - (13 originals songs) in 2016. This album was recorded in both - Timmins Ontario and Nashville Tennessee.
On November 2nd 2013, Estelle became the 90th person inducted into the Great Northern Opry in Sault-Ste-Marie.
In recent years, she has also been honoured through an induction into "Woman of Highway 11/Les femmes de la route 11"; which serves to recognize women of distinction residing along the corridor of northern Ontario's Hwy 11.
To add to the honors, in 2013 Estelle's home town of Cochrane Ontario presented her with a certificate and plaque of acknowledgement for her musical achievements.
She released the French singles:
"Le Jour Viendra", in May 2014
"Nous Les Filles" in June 2014
"Hier a Aujourd'hui" in January 2015
"Emporte-Moi" in April 2015
In April 2016, she proudly released her first French album "Attention" - which includes 10 originals songs that she recorded again, in both Timmins Ontario and Nashville Tennessee.
Estelle believes wholeheartedly that singing and performing will remain a constant in her life. She is ambitious and excited about continuing to make more albums with her musical partner John Lemieux.
Whether as a duo, "Estelle & John" or with her current band "Estelle Deschamps & The RoadRyders", all artists that Estelle has had the privilege of working with throughout the years have enriched her musical career in many ways.
As her audience knows, Estelle is just as comfortable performing mellow ballads as she is with belting out full-blown energetic rock performances. She really does love to be on stage and her commitment to making her audiences smile by sharing her songs and performing live is as strong as ever.
